About Katherine

Public School Teacher. Small Business Owner. Working Mom of Four. Former Council Member.

Katherine Aleman is a public school teacher, small business owner, working mom of four and former Norco City Council Member.

Raised on El Toro Marine Corps base, Katherine is the daughter of a Marine helicopter pilot and an elementary school principal who instilled in her the values of service, faith, and hard work. She attended local public schools in the Inland Empire, working her way through high school and college. An All-American swimmer, Katherine earned a degree in science from the University of California Davis.

Following her family’s tradition of service, Katherine joined the United States Peace Corps, serving in Paraguay, where she experienced firsthand how difficult it is for people to get ahead when the government fails to put people first.

Katherine returned to Inland Empire public schools as a public school teacher, dedicating herself to giving every student the opportunity to succeed.

While raising four boys in Norco, aka “Horsetown USA”, Katherine and a group of neighbors began expressing concerns over the lack of response to residents who were upset about zoning changes in a residential neighborhood. Believing that government should work for all residents and not just insiders, Katherine ran for City Council and won, becoming the only Democrat on the City Council, despite Republicans having a + 30% registration advantage.

On the Council, Katherine led efforts to build trust in government by making sure contracts went through an open bidding process, and keeping the community updated on activity at City Hall. Katherine earned the reputation of putting people first and working across the aisle to get things done.

While maintaining a balanced city budget every year, Katherine championed efforts to build affordable housing for veterans, lower utility rates for working families, expand the city’s small business loan program, fund public safety, tackle homelessness, improve streets and roads, and enhance local parks and green spaces.

A member of her neighborhood church, Katherine can be found volunteering on Sundays and serving the community as a member of various civic groups. A small business owner who raises chickens and runs an egg stand, she has been active in local efforts to strengthen Inland Empire agriculture.

Katherine is running for Congress because she believes Washington isn’t working for working families. As a teacher and a working mother, she understands the financial pressures Inland Empire families are under. She’s running to serve her community, not campaign donors and corporate special interests.

In Congress, she’ll fight to put working families first, to bring down the cost of living, keep health care affordable and available to families who rely on it, and make sure the Inland Empire has a fresh voice for change in Washington.

“I’m running for Congress because working families deserve a representative who has walked in their shoes – someone who’s balanced a household budget, worked hard, started a small business, and fought to take care of our kids, families, and veterans.”
